The Era of the Resurgence of the Female Spirit Philosophers and Mystics insist this is the Era when women will strive to rise to their highest competency. Women are finally coming into themselves, seizing opportunities which were not available to their grandmothers and mothers. The signs are clearly visible. We view with pride the intense dynaminism in the lives of many women – our Prime Ministers, Governors, Government Ministers, Pastors, Business Tycoons and Financial Comptrollers – shattering glass ceilings to gain respect in some unconventional and non- traditional ways.
Commendable? Definitely yes! We have earned this new respect, the right to be, to enjoy our accomplishments. We can now make choices….
Three years ago I came perilously close to fracturing a relationship with a young woman whom I admired. She shared with me her choice to conceive a child with a man she considered ideal to supply the best genes for her offspring. However, after our lengthy discussion we took separate paths. She was very disappointed with my view and serious
stance on this “New Age Procreation”.
In my opinion it strives to give credence to women who feel passionate about having children on their terms after having achieved their goals and dreams. Somehow they believe that they must now give consideration to completing themselves before their biological clock stops.
Having met young men who seek bonding, love and attention elsewhere, much to their peril, as well as sharing the tribulations of others I know personally who had to accept manly roles and responsibilities with little or no male bonding I feel moved to express quite passionately at times my views on the right to choose selfishly or selflessly.
Women, in spite of our successes we could or should ask ourselves, “Are we to abandon our needs and self for offspring and spouses in order to conform to traditional values? Should we not give serious thought to procreation? After all isn’t our goal to have positive contributions to the development of society and the human race? Moreover, is it not our responsibility as the female species to birth children in an environment of love, security and emotional stability with a partner who can readily complement these values? Should we not at the very least consider these factors?”
Judgment is certainly not mine.
But should we then be more concerned with biblical writings – The Sins of the Fathers visit and Pass on to Generations?
There comes a time in all our lives when we will face the consequences of our choices. We may have regrets some of which we would be forced to live with while for the others we hope for second chances.
So I end with just one thought, “What would you like to pass on to your future Generations?”
